Rapala Loop

mono fluoro

Updated · by Fish-logged

A non-slip loop knot at the hook eye. Leaves a small loop between line and lure so the lure can swing, dart and pivot freely — giving plugs and jerkbaits their full action.

When to use it

The standard knot for any lure that needs a wide range of motion — minnow plugs, jerkbaits, soft-plastic jig-heads. Better than a tight clinch on lures because the loop adds movement and prevents the tight knot from killing the lure's wobble.

How to tie it

  1. Tie a loose overhand knot in the line about 4 inches from the tag end. Leave it open.
  2. Pass the tag through the eye of the lure, then back up through the open overhand from below.
  3. Make 3 wraps around the standing line with the tag end above the overhand.
  4. Bring the tag back down and pass it through the overhand again (in the same direction as before).
  5. Moisten. Pull the standing line and the tag — the overhand seats against the eye but leaves a small loop. Trim the tag.
