Bimini Twist

100% — the only true "full strength" loop

mono fluoro braid

Updated · by Fish-logged

A long doubled section of line ending in a loop. The 20+ tightly-twisted wraps actually achieve full line strength — the only knot that doesn't weaken your line at all. Used to form the doubled section of an FG / Albright leader on big-game gear.

When to use it

Big-game saltwater fishing where every percent of line strength matters. Also useful as the start of any line-to-line connection where you want the join to bear the full breaking strain. A two-person knot in heavy line — you can tie it solo with your knees as the third "hand".

How to tie it

  1. Fold the line back on itself to form a long loop — for a fishing application aim for 18–24 inches.
  2. Hold the tag end. Rotate the loop tip 20 turns (yes, twenty) so the doubled section twists tightly. Hold the wraps in place.
  3. Pull the loop apart with your knees and pull the standing line — the twists pack into a barrel at the top.
  4. The tag end now needs to roll back DOWN over the twisted section toward the loop — keeping tension on the loop with one knee.
  5. Once the tag is fully wrapped over the twists, tie three half-hitches around both sides of the loop, trim the tag, and you have a long doubled line ending in a loop. Practise it at home before relying on it.
